Teenagers
are a group who have their own characteristics and
needs and who demand special care. This period of the
life is characterized by physical and psychological
changes, which determine the transition between the
infancy and the adulthood, in the following areas:
cognitive, emotional and social.
The fact is that most of the changes that they will go through in the
next five years, are more important than at any other time in their
lives.
Several
risk factors exist which can cause teenagers to take
decisions which harm their lives: distant relationships
and deficient communication within the family, low
self-esteem, a negative self-image, lack of motivation
for the future, lack of identification with values,
the influence of friends, family, mass media and school.
The first matter that we tackle in this series of sessions with parents
is:
I
am responsible for the education and formation
of my children.
I am a person in charge of having a vision of success for my children and
of putting the above mentioned vision into their hearts.
The
topics that we will be covering are:
- Identity
and purpose.
- How
to relate to God.
- Elements
and principles which allow the reflection
on and facilitation of decisions in teenagers,
based on the precise information, freely
with full conscience.
- Handling
of the emotions and of affection.
- Communication.
- Values
- Self-esteem
- Future
expectations and life goals
